Young State Park is located on Lake Charlevoix’s eastern shore. The park in Charlevoix County covers 560 acres and is a mix of gently rolling terrain, lowlands, and cedar swamp. The Petoskey News-Review Graphic named Young State Park’s beach the “best beach of the year.” Young State Park first opened its doors in 1921

The Civilian Conservation Corps built the park concession on the beach in the 1930s. Young State Park is a popular overnight destination due to its three modern campsites. Bear River is near Young State Park, which is ideal for canoeing and kayaking. Boyne Mountain is also nearby, and it’s a great place for biking, hiking, and skiing. With Lake Charlevoix, Bear River, and the beautiful trails in Young State Park, this area has a lot to offer visitors.

Young State Park Activities

Fishing

Rainbow, brown, and lake trout are stocked into Lake Charlevoix on an annual basis. Mirror Pond is a great place for kids to go fishing. Sunfish and rock bass have been introduced to the pond.

Hicking

Nearly 5 miles of nature trails are available for hiking, jogging, and nature study.

Boating

Lake Charlevoix has a surface area of 17,260 acres and depths of up to 122 feet. It’s fantastic for sailing, power boating, water skiing, and fishing. The lake also provides access to Lake Michigan. Within the park, there is a boat launch for boats under 16 feet in length.

Picnicking

Day-use parking is available near the sandy beach for trailers and cars. There is a concession store in the picnic area, as well as fire pits/grills.

M-75 to Boyne City, then north on C56 to the park entrance.
