Introduction of Woolly Hollow State Park
Woolly Hollow State Park, dubbed one of Arkansas’ “most picturesque state parks,” provides a charming retreat in the Ozarks. Weary RV travelers will want to stay here for a night or even a weekend to take advantage of the park’s fun activities and historic attractions.
This vast green space was formerly the Woolly family’s homestead, which moved here from Tennessee in the mid-nineteenth century. Martin Woolly built the cabin you’ll see on your park excursions, though it has since been moved and restored. Why not visit in early spring and take a guided tour of this historic homestead?
After you’ve had your fill of history, head to the hiking trails or the beach to fish, paddle, or swim. After a day of exploring, relax with a corn dog or ice cream from the park’s snack bar and watch the sunset over Lake Bennett.
Anyone planning a tent or RV camping trip at Woolly Hollow State Park should be wary of snakes! Some rather large and imposing water moccasins are said to live in the park’s alpine lake ecosystem.
Pack a snake bite kit and keep an eye out for these slithering critters while hiking. You should also think about participating in an interpretive program that teaches visitors about the snakes that live in Woolly Hollow.
When you’re ready to hit the road again in the RV, don’t forget to stop by the gift shop for a souvenir to take home!
Woolly Hollow State Park Camping
You have two options if you want to camp in a tent or RV at Woolly Hollow State Park. “Glampers” can select from 30 premium Class AAA sites that include full hookups, tables, grills, and easy access to the bathhouses. You can also truly rough it at one of the park’s ten primitive tent sites. There will be no fancy hookups or extra amenities, just you, your camping group, and the great outdoors! (There are also some communal water faucets for your convenience.)
All RV sites can accommodate vehicles up to 60 feet in length and have water, sewer, and 50-amp electric hookups. Only two of the locations are handicapped accessible.
While the campground is open all year, the facilities are only open during the summer. Campers can walk in or reserve their site up to a year in advance. Don’t forget to check in at the park office before occupying your site.
Woolly Hollow State Park Activities
Fishing
At Lake Bennett, the fish are always biting, especially the bass, bream, and catfish! If you don’t have your own boat, cast your line from the shore or rent a flatbottom fishing boat from the park office. Remember to get a state fishing license and some bait first!
Boating
Spend a relaxing day on Lake Bennett in a non-motorized boat! Guests who bring their own watercraft are welcome to use the complimentary boat launch. We don’t own a boat. From the park office, you can rent a kayak, canoe, or pedal boat!
Swimming
Pack your swimming trunks and prepare to doggy paddle the day away in Lake Bennett! You won’t have to worry about your safety because lifeguards will be on duty to supervise your swim. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the swimming area is open every day.
Hiking
During your RV camping trip to Woolly Hollow State Park, take a peaceful stroll through nature. Enjoy a half-mile hike with a side of history along The Cabin Trail, which begins at the 19th-century Woolly Cabin. From here, you can join the Huckleberry Trail, a three-and-a-half-mile hike with a waterfall and stunning views of the park from the ridge.
Biking
Enders Fault Mountain Biking Trail will get your heart pumping! This route is just over nine miles long and offers two paths that diverge in the Woolly Hollow woods. The North Loop is ideal for beginners, while the South Loop has some steep inclines for those looking for a challenge. Which path are you going to take?
Woolly Hollow State Park Location
The park’s paved roads are easy to navigate for both big rigs and standard vehicles. The RV sites are level, paved, and back-in. Highway 65 is a short distance away and leads southwest into Greenbrier, where RV travelers can refuel, restock on supplies, and eat at both local and fast food restaurants.
Parking
There are two paved parking lots near the park office and picnic area. Woolly Hollow State Park has no parking or entrance fees, making it a budget-friendly day-use destination.
