Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park, which was renamed in honour of the late world-class explorer, diver, cinematographer, and photographer Wes Skiles, is home to two major springs, a spring run, and six sinkholes, all of which are in near-pristine condition, according to the National Park Service.
Cave divers come from all over the world to Peacock Springs to explore the nearly 33,000 feet of surveyed underwater passages that have been discovered. The park is home to one of the longest underwater cave systems in the continental United States, which is located beneath the surface of the water. It is only permitted to explore the underwater caverns if the diver can provide proof of their scuba certification certification.
In the mature forest stands surrounding the springs, four major plant communities can be found, each with its own distinctive characteristics. One of the world’s most acclaimed nature trails takes hikers on a path that follows the twisting passageways of underground caves far below their feet, educating them along the way.
Peacock Springs and Orange Grove Sink are popular summer swimming spots, and swimming lessons are available.
Picnic facilities such as grills and pavilions are available.
