You can paddle through the tangled mangroves, tidal creeks, and expansive salt marshes, or you can explore the Gulf of Mexico by taking to the open waterways.
The park offers a variety of options for kayaking and canoeing including bringing your own gear or renting from them. Sea Dog Kayak Rentals is our concessionaire, and they are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Sunday.
Hike our Springs Trail, which winds through pine flatwoods and oak hammocks, passing several small artesian springs and sinks along the way. On a low tide, you can take advantage of our tidal waterfall, which is located just past Salt Spring.
Visit the easily accessible interpretive displays located throughout the park to get a better understanding of our fascinating history.
The Springs and Eagle trails are a birder’s paradise, and there are several viewing stands along the way where you can see bald eagles, roseate spoonbills, the elusive black rail, hawks, wading birds, shorebirds, and migratory songbirds in abundance.
We have no beaches or swimming areas in this park, despite the fact that it protects four miles of pristine coastline along the Gulf of Mexico in western Pasco County. This is due to the mangroves that line the shoreline. On Durney Key, which can be reached by launching your kayak or canoe from the park, swimming is available just outside the park boundaries. Printed maps can be picked up at the kiosk, as well as at the concession stand office.
