Introduction of Tenkiller State Park
Tenkiller State Park is known as “heaven in the hills” in Oklahoma. Lake Tenkiller’s sparkling blue waters provide water enthusiasts with a plethora of recreational opportunities such as water skiing, fishing, boating, tubing, and scuba diving. Anglers can target a variety of bass species, crappie, catfish, bream, and walleye. Below the dam, rainbow trout are stocked. A scuba diving park, volleyball court, basketball court, shuffleboard court, and other amenities are available.A horseshoe pit, an amphitheatre, playgrounds, a community building, a swimming pool, a nature centre, group picnic shelters, swim beaches, a kids’ fishing pond, a paved hiking trail, and lighted boat ramps are among the amenities available. Tent camping, RV camping, and cottage rentals all allow visitors to extend their stay at Tenkiller State Park in comfort.
In addition to the recreational opportunities on Lake Tenkiller, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation has licenced approximately 2,590 acres of project land to the west of the lake for a state game management and hunting area. Hunters will find plenty of deer, quail, dove, duck, geese, rabbit, and squirrel in this area.
Tenkiller State Park Camping
Tenkiller State Park offers 39 cabins ranging in size from one to three bedrooms, in addition to tent and RV camping. Except for the three-bedroom model, all of the cabins are duplexes. Dishes, linens, full kitchens, heat, air conditioning, and satellite television are provided in the cabins. Tenkiller State Park also has courtyard cottages available. Each room has heat and air conditioning, a refrigerator, and linens. Restrooms and showers are available at comfort stations located throughout the park.
Tenkiller State Park Activities
Boating
Lake Tenkiller is easily accessible from a variety of points throughout the park. Fuel, gifts, sportswear, snacks, repairs, and boat slip rentals are also available at the park’s Pine Cove Marina, as is the floating Clearwater Cafe.
Fishing
Lake Tenkiller is a popular fishing spot where anglers can catch a variety of bass, crappie, catfish, bream, and walleye. Rainbow trout are also stocked below the dam. Children 16 and under may catch a limit of three fish per day in Tenkiller State Park’s kids’ fishing pond with no charge or permit.
Hiking
Hiking through Tenkiller State Park allows visitors to see some of the fascinating wildlife and plant species found in the area.
Picnicking
Outdoor grills are available in picnic areas and shelters throughout the park, allowing visitors to enjoy a hot meal outside.
Tenkiller State Park Location
Take Exit 287 off Interstate 40 heading east. To get to the park, take Highway 100 north through Gore. Take Exit 297 off I-40 W. Take Highway 82 10 miles north to Highway 100, then three miles south to the park.
