Introduction of Seven Islands State Birding Park
With over 190 species of birds sighted, Seven Islands State Birding Park is a premier birding destination due to its diverse natural landscape of aquatic and grassland habitats. The park spans 416 acres in Knox County, about 19 miles east of Knoxville, along the French Broad River. This land peninsula has over eight miles of natural trails, rolling hills, and views of the Smoky Mountains. In addition to being a popular hiking and wildlife observation spot, the park also serves as a research and educational facility for schools and other groups, as well as a demonstration area for land use and habitat management techniques. Songbirds, hawks, and waterfowl can be seen along the meadow trails, and Barn Owls find refuge in several old barns. A small canoe/kayak launch provides access to the French Broad River for paddlers and anglers.
