Welcome to Lake June-in-Winter Scrub Preserve State Park

This park is a tranquil 845-acre preserve that protects sand scrub, which is considered to be one of the state’s most threatened natural communities.

Some of Florida’s most endangered plant and animal species, such as the Florida scrub-jay, Florida scrub lizard, Florida mouse, gopher tortoise, and Eastern indigo snake, can be found here, as well as some of the state’s rarest and most endangered plant and animal species. A variety of wildlife can be found along the three miles of lakefront, including ospreys and bald eagles, as well as white-tailed deer, bobcats, and black bear.

The majority of the land is covered with scrub, scrubby flatwoods, and bayhead. For those looking for a remote wilderness experience, bird-watching, and nature study, this relatively new park is the best choice in the area.

Although there are few amenities, the natural environment is exceptional. Hiking along the white sugar sand fire lanes, walking a half-mile nature trail, fishing from the lakeshore, and launching a lightweight canoe or kayak into the lake are all possibilities for visitors. A picnic area is equipped with a shelter and tables, but there is no grill.

The park can be found on the west side of Lake June-in-Winter, near the shoreline. It is only a ten-minute drive west of the town of Lake Placid and thirty minutes from Highlands Hammock State Park, which are both located nearby. It is located 12 miles south of Sebring on U.S. Highway 27, 12 miles south of I-75.

Take U.S. 27 to Lake June Road and turn left. Make a right onto Lake June Road and drive around the lake until you reach the end. Daffodil Street will take you south. Continue south on Daffodil for another two miles until you reach the park entrance.

GPS coordinates for the park are as follows: N 27o 17.792 W 81o 25.469
