Introduction of Keewaydin State Park

Keewaydin State Park is one of the most beautiful waterside campgrounds in the area for visitors who want to see the water. The park is located on the New York side of the St. Lawrence River, a waterway used by ocean-bound ships. Because the river shares a border with Canada, visitors can camp in the United States and gaze across the river to Canada.

The park is located in the Thousand Island Region of New York, which is known for its woodlands and waterways. The Thousand Islands Region stretches from Lake Ontario to Lake Champlain and features some of the best boating and fishing in the area.

Keewaydin State Park offers some of the most spectacular scenic outdoor areas for RV campers and recreational seekers. There is plenty to see and do, whether you walk along the paved walkway and rest in one of the riverfront gazebos or spend time searching for different wildflowers and wildlife. Day use areas in the park include picnic tables, grills, a playground, and a rental facility for group activities and events, enticing visitors to spend more time outside.

Keewaydin State Park Camping

The Keewaydin State Park Campground, located next to the St. Lawrence River, is pet-friendly. The campground is only open during the summer and closes during the winter. Each space has a back-in driveway and can fit RVs and campers up to 40 feet long. Although there are no hookups, these primitive-style sites do have a fire pit and a picnic table. The campground has modern bathhouses with flushing toilets and showers, as well as a dump station. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., and all campers are required to be quiet enough not to disturb their nearest neighbor during these hours. Generator use is permitted between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., and again between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Keewaydin State Park Activities

Boating

The St. Lawrence River is well-known for its water recreation opportunities. If you want to spend the day on the water, the park has a boat launch where you can launch your boat. If you don’t have a boat or need boating supplies, stop by the marina. The marina at the park is a seasonal facility that provides boaters with the amenities they need for a fun and safe day on the water. Boats under 36 feet in length can dock near the marina. During operating hours, there is gas, shore power, a launch ramp, and fishing boat and engine rentals. There is also ice cream, fishing equipment, showers, restrooms, and a pump-out. Contact the marina or the park office for more information on the marina, launching boats, or boat rentals.

Swimming

During the peak season, the park’s Olympic-sized pool is open. Swimming enthusiasts can enjoy a fun and safe day in the water. When the pool is open, the lifeguards on duty keep it safe for swimmers of all abilities. The pool is close to modern restrooms and a bathhouse, as well as a first aid station and a playground. To enter the pool grounds, swimmers must pay a day use fee. For more information on the pool, please contact the park.

Fishing / Ice Fishing

The fish in the St. Lawrence River are plentiful throughout the year. Whether you prefer fishing when the water is flowing or fishing through the ice, Keewaydin State Park is an excellent place to spend time in nature with your fishing pole. Guests can fish from the shoreline or from a boat during the warmer months, and they have access to the marina and fishing supplies.Bring your ice fishing gear and follow ice safety precautions when venturing out onto the ice during the winter. Fishing licenses are required in New York for those aged 16 and up. Because the St. Lawrence River has shorelines in both the United States and Canada, make sure you adhere to all fishing regulations for both countries.

Cross Country Skiing

Keewaydin State Park is best known for its summer activities, but when the weather turns colder and snow begins to fall, the park continues to operate. Despite the fact that some facilities are closed during the winter, the park is open for recreation. When the conditions are right, the hiking trail transforms into a cross-country trail, and visitors with their own skiing equipment can spend time traversing past the frozen river while enjoying the peace and quiet of the woods.

Geocaching

Geocaching, a family-friendly electronic scavenger hunt, is an activity that people of all ages can enjoy. Bring your GPS unit and other caching supplies, and spend some time looking for what’s hidden beneath the brush and rocks. There are caches both within and outside the park’s boundaries. The cache in the park is a hole punch style cache that must be kept; it is not a trade item. Visit the official geocaching website for more information on geocaching and the most up-to-date cache information.
