Introduction of Herrington Manor State Park

Herrington Manor State Park, located in Garrett County, offers swimming, canoeing, kayaking, picnicking, hiking, tennis, volleyball, and 20 furnished log cabins for rental year round. Summer interpretive programmes are scheduled, and popular special events such as maple syrup demonstrations and apple butter making are held in the spring and fall.

Herrington Manor State Park has two handicapped-accessible cabins, a visitors’ center, a concession stand, picnic areas, a path to the swimming beach, and a fishing pier.

Pets are permitted in the following areas of Herrington Manor State Park:

•Pets are prohibited in cabins

•Pets are permitted in the day-use area

Herrington Manor State Park Camping

Twenty electric cabins feature bathrooms with showers, kitchens with refrigerators and dishes, and fireplaces with inserts. Non-holiday weekends require a two-night minimum stay, while holiday weekends require a three-day minimum stay. Cabins are available all year. Pets are not allowed in or near the cabins at any time.

Herrington Manor State Park Activities

Boating

Herrington Manor rents boats from mid-April to mid-October. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, canoes and kayaks are available for rent at the concession from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rentals are available at the Park Office both before and after the summer season. The lake also has a public boat ramp, but no gas-powered motors are permitted.

Hiking

There are four trails totaling 6.5 miles of hiking. The Red and Blue trails are accessible via the concession stand near Herrington Manor Lake or the boat ramp. The Green trail is located behind the backstop near the tennis courts at the ballfield. The Yellow trail can be reached from the Green trail, which is located behind the office, or from the road leading to the concession stand. The trails range in length from 0.9 to 2.4 miles.

Water sports

Skiing on the cross-country course — The park has 10 miles of trails that lead into the adjoining state forest and range in difficulty from beginner to intermediate. In addition, a 5.5-mile trail connects Herrington Manor and Swallow Falls State Parks. When conditions permit, the park trails are track-set.

3.5 hours from Baltimore West on Route 70 to Hancock, Maryland and Route 68. Continue west on Route 68 until you reach Exit 14 at Keysers Ridge and Route 219. Route 219 south for 19.5 miles to Mayhew Inn Road (2 miles past Deep Creek). Turn right onto Mayhew Inn Road and travel 4.5 miles to the road’s end. Turn left at the stop sign onto Oakland Sang Run Road and travel 0.3 mile to the first road on the right, Swallow Falls Road. Swallow Falls State Park is 1.3 miles away on Swallow Falls Road, or Herrington Manor State Park is 4.5 miles away.

3.5 hours from Washington Route 270 west will take you to Frederick and Route 70. West on Route 70 to Hancock, Maryland and Route 68. Continue west on Route 68 until you reach Exit 14 at Keysers Ridge and Rt. 219. Route 219 south for 19.5 miles to Mayhew Inn Road (2 miles past Deep Creek).
