Introduction of Harmonie State Park
Harmonie State Park is located 25 miles northwest of Evansville “on the banks of the Wabash.” Camping and cabins, shady picnic areas, ravines, and pristine scenery are all available here. This is a hiker’s paradise. Walking, biking, mountain biking, and nature hikes will entice you to visit.
Thomas Say lived in New Harmony from 1826 until his death in 1834. Say is widely regarded as the Father of North American Entomology, or the science and study of insects. In 1826, Say was living in New Harmony, Posey County, when he described the Say’s Firefly (Pyractomena angulata). In 2018, the Say’s Firefly was designated as Indiana’s state insect.
Nearby Historic New Harmony pays homage to two distinct communities from the early 1800s. In 1814, the Rappites settled here. They were fleeing religious persecution and looking forward to the coming millennium. When the Owenites purchased the Rappites’ holdings in 1824, they brought many great scientists and philosophers to the area.
Harmonie State Park Camping
Stay in the state park RV campgrounds to have immediate access to the park from the moment you wake up. The park has approximately 200 sites with electric hookups and modern restrooms. Many of the park’s sites can accommodate large RVs, some of which are 65-foot pull-thrus. There are also hot showers, a dump station, and drinking water. Campers can make the most of their outdoor experience thanks to the fire ring and cooking grill located at each site.
Rest Up Camping and RV Corral, which spans over 50 acres and offers full hookup RV sites with water, electric, and sewer hookups, is another nearby option. Every campsite has a fire ring and a picnic table. The campground is unique in that it has its own old west town, Westwood. As soon as you enter the site, you’ll get a sense of the old west. On-site activities include a miniature golf course, a playground, a dance hall, and other attractions.
