The park, which was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression, is part of the 56-mile long Edisto River Canoe and Kayak Trail and is located at the end of a popular 21-mile downstream paddle from Colleton State Park.

Givhans Ferry State Park is a natural refuge that is also notable for its limestone river bluff and sinkholes that are six to eight feet deep.

Charleston KOA

Charleston KOA is one of the most beautiful campgrounds in the area, including azaleas, oaks, and loblolly pines. There is an on-site recreational building with meeting facilities and a full kitchen, as well as a family cabin that sleeps up to eight people that may be hired. RV Camping at Givhans Ferry State Park Campground

Givhans Ferry State Park has 31 RV and tent camping sites. Six of these sites provide full hookups with sewer, water, and electricity. The remaining sites have water and electricity hookups. Site length varies, however some RV sites may accommodate rigs up to 50 feet long.

The sites are pet-friendly, and you are invited to bring your pets with you when you visit the park. Just keep them on a leash at all times and clean up after them. Each site includes its own picnic table, fire ring, and grill.

Givhans Ferry State Park Activities

Boating

When you visit the park, you can enjoy paddling along the Edisto River. A boat ramp is around three miles from the park, but you can just access the water with your kayak, canoe, or paddleboard. If you’re feeling daring, you may paddle from Colleton State Park to Givhans Ferry State Park on a 21-mile canoe trail. Depending on the present conditions, you should allow seven to nine hours to complete the trek. The Edisto River is incredibly peaceful and provides a very soothing kayaking experience.

Fishing

Flathead, channel catfish, redbreast, shell crackers, largemouth bass, and striped bass are among the many species found in the Edisto River. As you can see, there is lots of fishing possibilities, so bring your fishing gear in your RV. If you don’t have any fishing gear or forgot to bring it with you, you may always rent it at the park office. The park is part of the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ Tackle Loan Program. Before you cast your line, make sure you have a valid South Carolina fishing licence.

Bird Watching

Within the park’s boundaries, numerous bird species can be sighted. Birding is a favourite activity at the park, and visitors should keep their eyes peeled while they walk along the paths or along the Edisto River’s banks. Birds thrive in the park’s naturally forested landscape, and you’ll frequently hear them singing as you stroll through it. Bring binoculars and a camera in your campervan, and print up a checklist to help you keep track of the birds you spot.

Hiking

When visiting Givhans Ferry State Park, bring your bicycle or hiking boots in your travel trailer. Aside from cycling and walking around the park, there are a handful of routes for hikers and one for bikers to enjoy. The length of these paths ranges from 1.5 to five miles. They aren’t too strenuous, and you’ll be able to fit in as many as you want during your visit. Nothing like a cool, refreshing swim on those scorching summer days. Givhans Ferry State Park provides an ideal swimming site along the Edisto River’s banks. There is no designated swimming area, so you can swim wherever you like. There are no lifeguards on duty, so be cautious because you will be swimming at your own risk. Tubing is another enjoyable activity at the park. If you have a tube or another floatable device, it will come in handy here as you float down the Edisto River.

Givhans Ferry State Park Location

The city of Charleston is about 35 miles away, and there are no height restrictions on the road to the park. If you need supplies or other items during your stay at the park, you may usually get them in the local town of Ridgeville, which is only eight miles away. If you don’t find what you’re looking for in North Charleston or Charleston, you’ll almost certainly find it in North Charleston or Charleston.

Once within the park, the roads stay paved, and you’ll have a smooth drive throughout the park in your RV. If you are staying for a few days, you can check in and park your RV at your site. Day guests may proceed to park their vehicles.
