Fort Cooper State Park, with its more than 700 acres of natural beauty at its best, is a great place for relaxing, hiking, studying nature, and learning about Florida’s long and illustrious history.
When the water levels and conditions are right, Lake Holathlikaha is a popular spot for fishing and boating. Although private boats are not permitted, canoes and kayaks can be rented when the conditions are right.
The Fort Cooper State Park, which is a stop on the Great Florida Birding Trail, has nearly 5 miles of self-guided trails that provide excellent bird and wildlife viewing opportunities. Many plants and animals, including threatened and endangered species, find refuge in the park’s diverse natural areas, which include wetlands and ponds.
A paved pathway connects the park to the Withlacoochee State Trail, which is paved and multi-use. Visitors to the park can take advantage of the picnic areas and playground while relaxing in a hardwood hammock near the lake.
Located along the Seminole Heritage Trail, the kiosks are a series of four interpretive panels that provide insight into the lives of the Seminole Indians who once lived in this area, as well as the historical context of Fort Cooper’s development.
