Findley State Park has a lot of wood, but don’t get too worked up about it. This 838-acre refuge is surrounded by white ash and black cherry forests. The abundance of paths makes this park especially appealing to those looking to explore the area. Hike or bike 16 miles of trails, or take on the mountain biking challenge on Thorn Trail, a nine-mile loop that cuts sharp turns and weaves through wooded areas. A smaller beach is perfect for relaxing, and the lakes welcome everything from motor boats to kayaks and canoes. Try your hand at disc golf or fishing; the world is your oyster in Findley!

Findley State Park’s forest views are spectacular, growing on an abandoned farm. You’ll love breathing in the forest air while surrounded by rare wildflowers like woodland asters, marsh marigold, and bloodroot. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including beavers, raccoons, white-tailed deer, and red foxes. Historians and geology enthusiasts will both fall in love with the area after learning about the bedrock beneath Findley State Park.

As soon as you park your RV at Findley State Park, you can explore the park’s many trails or simply relax and enjoy the Nature Center located in the campground. You can stay in comfort at a full hookup, electric, or primitive-style campgrounds. Additional amenities for RV campers include laundry facilities, a dump station, and a playground for the kids. Findley State Park Camping

Findley State Park has 257 pet-friendly RV and tent campsites available. Findley Electric and Findley Non-Electric campsites are available. One hundred fifty-nine of the sites have no hookups, while 91 have access to water and electricity. There are also 15 full-service campsites. Showers, restrooms, and a dump station are available at the campground. Each site has a gravel or concrete pad, a picnic table, and a fire ring, with different maximum length restrictions.

You’ll be near the trails and recreational area, which includes a playground, volleyball court, basketball court, and horseshoe pits. The campground is close enough to the lake that you can walk there and enjoy beautiful waterfront views. Regular weekends have a two-night minimum stay, and holidays have a three-night minimum. The campground is open all year. Reservations can be made up to six months ahead of time.

Reserved Camp Sites

If you’re looking for a great park but don’t have a reservation, Findley State Park allows walk-in campers to use available walk-in campsites. On a first-come, first-served basis, there are 27 campsites and five electric sites available. If you arrive after the office has closed, fill out the self-registration envelope at the camp office, located to the left of the bulletin board. These campgrounds have restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and fire rings. If you are fortunate enough to secure one of these coveted spots, you will have access to all of the campground’s amenities, including nearby recreational areas, a playground, and access to all of the fun at the lake.

Cabins

Consider renting one of the park’s three camping cabins if you prefer to camp with your creature comforts or if you just want to get out of the RV for a night or two. The cabins, which are located near the campground, can sleep up to four people and are equipped with modern conveniences such as mini-refrigerators and ceiling fans. Nearby restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers are available. Inside each cabin, guests will find one full-size bed and two bunk beds, but no linens are provided, so those planning to stay will need to bring their own, as well as any other supplies they may require. The cabins are available from May to October, and reservations are required. Pets are unfortunately not permitted in the cabins.

Explore Nature

Findley State Park is home to the world’s largest and deepest shale and sandstone quarries. The sandstone in the park reaches a maximum thickness of 200 feet or more, despite the fact that most Berea Sandstone is only 10 to 40 feet thick. These bedrock foundations are over 300 million years old. The Nature Center explains how these are formed and why they are important to the park. Because the Nature Center is located in the campground, you can easily walk there after you set up camp.

Camp Store Shopping

If you get hungry while visiting Findley State Park, stop by the camp store. You can also buy firewood for your campsite’s fire ring while you’re there. The supplies are limited, but they will get you through your day of fishing on the lake and provide you with the essentials to help you enjoy your RV visit to the park. If you need something that the camp store does not have, Wellington is just over two miles to the north.

Golf at Findley Park

If you want to do something different during your RV vacation to Findley State Park, go to the on-site disc golf course. This family-friendly activity is provided free of charge and is an excellent way to spend time outside. Whether you’re a first-time disc golfer or a seasoned pro, this 18-hole course has something for everyone. Equipment rentals are available if you did not bring your own.

Fishing in Findley

When you visit Findley State Park, bring your best fishing rod and reel. The state park lake will put your skills to the test as you fish for bluegill and largemouth bass from the beautiful Findley Lake. Stay close to the shoreline for the best results. Non-residents may purchase a one-day fishing license, a three-day non-resident tourist’s fishing license, or an annual non-resident fishing license if they are an Ohio resident.

Hiking

You’ll want to make sure you have a good pair of hiking boots in your Airstream because Findley State Park has nine hiking trails of varying difficulty. The Black Locust Trail is a great place to go for a short walk. This half-mile trail winds through forest vegetation, surrounded by tranquil beauty. Thorn Mountain Bike Trail is a nine-mile loop that will take you through heavily wooded areas if you are looking for a more difficult hike.

Boating On Findley State Park

Don’t be afraid to tow your boat behind the Sprinter because Findley State Park offers 93 acres of tranquil waters on Findley Lake. If you didn’t bring your own watercraft, you can rent kayaks, canoes, and rowboats from Friday to Monday at the beach buildings. Along the lake, there are two boat launches for visitors to use. If you prefer to be in the water rather than on it, there is a 435-foot sandy beach where you can swim.

Biking

Findley State Park is an excellent place to bring your bike and ride through the forest trails. You can cycle down the Thorn Mountain Bike Trail after parking your pop-up, which is a nine-mile trail with turns and fast winding sections. Another fantastic biking trail is the nearly two-mile Buckeye Trail, which takes you along roads used by marathon runners. Helmets are recommended for both experts and novices on both trails.

Findley State Park Location

Findley State Park is very accessible by car or RV because it is located in Wellington, Ohio, about an hour southwest of Cleveland. The park’s entrance is off of State Route 58, and even large vehicles should have no trouble navigating this well-maintained two-lane road. Once inside the park, local roads will take you to a variety of locations, including the marina and disc golf course, as well as the campground and trails. There are no driving restrictions in the park for trailers or RVs, so you’ll have no trouble getting around whether you’re towing your camper or driving a motorhome.

Parking

With two lots in the park, there are numerous options for parking trailers and RVs. You’ll be able to find parking at the recreation area and trailheads. Of course, parking is available at the campground if you stay overnight. With over 16 miles of hiking and biking trails located within the park, getting around on foot or by bike will be simple once you park the rig.
