Introduction of Don Pedro Island State Park
This lovely little island is part of a large chain of barrier islands that stretches along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Don Pedro is only accessible by private boat between Knight Island and Little Gasparilla Island. Boaters can dock at the dock on the island’s bay side, which is lined with mangroves. The dock is accessible via a 2.5-foot-deep channel south of the Cape Haze power line crossing. West Indian manatees, gopher tortoises, bald eagles, and American oystercatchers may be seen by visitors.Sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling, and shelling are popular activities on the island’s Gulf side, which has a mile of white sand beach. Boat and surf fishing are also popular activities. Trails wind through the island’s 11 natural communities, making them ideal for hiking and nature study. About nine miles south of Englewood, off the coast of Cape Haze. Nautical Waterproof Chart #25 is the boating location. Signs along the Intracoastal Waterway direct visitors to the park.
