This one-of-a-kind state park is located on a peninsula that extends into Delta Lake Reservoir, less than ten miles from Rome, New York. Delta Lake State Park’s campground features 101 spacious, shaded campsites suitable for tents or RVs, a white sand beach, scenic water frontage, picnic areas, and a boat launch area.

Because of its lakeside location, the campground is a popular summer hangout for water sport enthusiasts of all types. Swimmers who enjoy swimming in nature will appreciate the clear water and white sandy beaches, which are patrolled by trained lifeguards during the summer months. Overnight campers and day visitors alike can enjoy power boating, jet skiing, canoeing, and fishing from the boat launch.

Exploring the three miles of nature trails provides visitors with an up-close view of the flora in the area, including vulnerable species such as the sundial lupine, and may provide them with an opportunity to see wildlife such as deer, porcupine, and several varieties of squirrels. Picnicking in nature is another popular summer activity in this area. The campground is closed to overnight camping in the winter, but the surrounding trails are open, allowing visitors to enjoy winter activities such as cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and snowshoeing.

Delta Lake State Park Camping

Delta Lake State Park’s campground is located right next to the public use area, just over two miles from the nearest town, Westernville, NY. The 101 reservable campsites are organised in three large loops and are spacious enough to accommodate tents or RVs up to 40 feet in length. The majority of the campsites are in forested areas, but there are 20 sites along the waterfront that can be reserved for a slightly higher fee. Each campsite has electrical hookups (79 have 30 amp power and 22 have 50 amp power), a fire pit, and a picnic table, but no single water or sewer hookups. The use of generators is strictly prohibited.9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. While most campsites are relatively level, some may require the use of blocks to stabilise the trailer. At each loop, there are potable water faucets as well as several restrooms with hot showers and flush toilets. A dump station and a water filling station are located near the intersection of Loops A and B. The park is open all year, but the campground is closed to overnight campers in the winter. Pets are welcome at this campground, but they must be kept on a six-foot or shorter leash at all times and may not be left unattended.

Delta Lake State Park Activities

Bird Watching

The park’s three miles of nature trails, wooded campsites, and miles of shoreline are ideal for bird watching. The lake is frequently visited by swimming and wading birds. Not only do common waterbirds like Canada geese, mallards, great blue herons, and mergansers exist, but so do threatened and endangered species like the double-crested cormorant and cattle egret. When the campground closes for the winter, the peace and quiet attracts even more birdlife, including a variety of chickadees, finches, woodpeckers, and sparrows.. Sharp-shinned hawks, harriers, bald eagles, and endangered owls such as the barn owl and the long-eared owl are among the birds of prey that hunt in this area. Ice Fishing

The Delta Lake Reservoir is a popular fishing destination all year. During the summer, this lake is a great place to fish from a boat or from the shore for crappie, small and largemouth bass, and chain pickerel. Fishing in this lake is especially popular during the winter months, and while the campground is no longer open for overnight camping, visitors can still enjoy some of the best ice fishing in the area during the day. During the winter, the most sought-after species include walleye, yellow perch, and northern pike. Northern pikes larger than 45 inches are not uncommon in the Delta Lake Reservoir. Fishing licences are required and can be obtained from an agent or online.

Hiking

Delta Lake State Park is surrounded by approximately three miles of nature trails, some of which are marked and others which are not. The Beach Trail is 0.31 miles long, the Fox Run Trail is 0.52 miles long, the Snowmobile Trail is 0.37 miles long, and the Yellow Trail is two miles long. Because the terrain is wooded and mostly flat, the trails can be enjoyed by people of all skill levels and are even suitable for family outings with children.Delta Lake State Park’s beautiful trails and picnic areas are open to visitors whether they are passing through for the day or staying overnight in the RV campground. Keep an eye out for squirrels and deer, among other woodland creatures. Dogs are permitted to accompany their human companions on these trails, but they must be restrained by a leash no longer than six feet in length.

Boating

Boating is a popular summer activity on Delta Lake for both overnight campers and locals who come for a day trip. Delta Lake State Park has its own boat launch area, as well as two hard surface ramps. This lake allows most types of watercraft, from windsurfing and board sailing to powerboating. Visitors to this park are welcome to bring their own watercraft, such as an inner tube, canoe, kayak, or motorboat, or to rent a canoe, paddleboat, or kayak from one of the nearby businesses.Water skiing and jet skis are also permitted on this lake, though they must avoid designated swimming areas. Lifejackets are recommended for all ages, but are required for children under the age of 12 and anyone on a personal watercraft or being towed in the water. To prevent the spread of invasive aquatic species, New York State requires boats to be dried or disinfected before launch.

Delta Lake State Park Location

Delta Lake State Park is accessible by car, foot, or boat. The entrance is about six miles from New York State Route 46. The highways and roads leading to the park are relatively straight, flat two-lane highways that make getting to the campground simple. There are no driving restrictions within the park, but keep an eye out for low-hanging branches and wandering wildlife because the surroundings are wooded.The roads within the campground and day-use area are also paved and wide enough to accommodate all but the largest campervans. After you’ve set up your RV camp, you can explore the park’s wooded trails on foot or by bicycle, or launch your boat and explore Delta Lake from the water. There are several parking areas for day visitors, and if you’re staying overnight, you can park your rig in the camping area.
