Introduction of  Chief Logan Park

Chief Logan State Park, located in southern West Virginia, is a 4,000-acre paradise with hotels, conference facilities, campgrounds, hiking trails, and a range of outdoor activities and attractions. Chief Logan State Park is one of the most popular attractions in the West Virginia State Parks System, and it is well-known for its annual “Christmas in the Park” drive-thru holiday light display. Chief Logan Lodge and the neighbouring state park are only a few miles apart. Guests can stay at Chief Logan Lodge and enjoy the amenities before taking a short trip to visit the nearby state park, which is separated by a gorgeous mountain.

Chief Logan State Park is conveniently located near the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System’s trailheads.

Visitors to the park’s Liz Spurlock Amphitheater can hear retellings of the area’s rich history while enjoying one of the musicals or plays presented there throughout the year. The Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad was also a part of the park’s history. When visitors visit the park and view the Kanawha 2700 Class engine, which was donated by the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad in the early 1960s, they will learn more about this.

Hiking, swimming, motorcycling, fishing, and geocaching are among the numerous activities available in the park. Chief Logan State Park is especially well-known for its annual “Christmas in the Park” light show, which visitors can drive through. If you want to stay in the park for a few days, you can choose from a number of lodging alternatives. A room at the Chief Logan Lodge, a cottage, or an RV park with different hookups are among the options.

Chief Logan State Park Camping

Logan Chief State Park Campground has 26 campsites with various hookup options. 14 of the 26 sites include complete hookups, while the remaining 12 provide only electrical and water hookups. The campground is open weather permitting during the spring and summer months.

A common restroom with hot showers and flushing toilets is available at the campground. During your stay, you can utilise the picnic table and grill at each spot. All of the park’s recreational activities will be easily accessible to campers.

Campground quiet hours are strictly enforced and run from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Campers may stay for a maximum of 14 days at a time. Campsites must be requested in advance and booked by an adult over the age of 18.

Logan Cabins

Visitors looking for a more deluxe stay can book a room at the Chief Logan Lodge or one of the cabins built on top of the lodge.

The 75-room lodge is separated from the park by a mountain, and tourists must take a short drive to get there. Guests can stay in the rooms and cabins all year and have access to the lodge restaurant, an indoor and outdoor pool, a fitness centre, and mini-golf.

The lodge has a variety of rooms and suites, some with balconies and either a king or queen-sized bed. You will have free Wi-Fi access, and each room has a coffee maker, TV, phone, and private bathroom. Guests may also bring up to two dogs for an additional nightly charge.

The three cabins provided have large living areas that are ideal for families on vacation, as well as all of the modern facilities you will require during your stay. There are four bedrooms and four bathrooms, as well as linens, Wi-Fi, a deck, fireplace, fire pit, smart TV, and a fully furnished kitchen. One of the cabins is also wheelchair accessible. For further information, please contact the park.

Activities in Chief Logan Park

Fishing

Fishermen can enjoy being out in nature as they fish at Chief Logan State Park’s pond. Bring your fishing rod when you visit because the pond is frequently stocked with catfish and trout. Remember that there is a daily catch restriction. The park also allows night fishing, so you may cast your line beneath a blanket of stars. You may be required to have a fishing license in the park, so bring a valid West Virginia fishing license with you.

Hiking

Hikers and cyclists will have enough of excitement with 30 miles of multi-use paths to explore. There are 12 separate paths, each differing in length and difficulty, and you’re bound to discover one or two that interest you. Wear sturdy shoes and bring a trekking stick with you because parts of the trails might be muddy at times. All motorcyclists under the age of 16 are required by law to wear a helmet when riding, so bring one with you if you wish to hit the trails.

Swimming

If you visit the park during the summer, you will enjoy hanging out in the pool area. This is a delightful way to beat the heat that is appropriate for the entire family. The park has an Olympic-sized swimming pool with a fantastic, twisting water slide for both kids and adults to enjoy. A kiddie pool is accessible for younger children. For a little price, visitors can enjoy the pool from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Before you go, be sure you understand the swimming rules.

Geocaching

Chief Logan State Park also allows people to explore the park while geocaching. Geocaching is a modern version of a treasure hunt for folks who have never heard of this enjoyable, family-friendly game. To play, you’ll need a GPS-enabled device and some of your own trinkets. When you uncover the cache, you can exchange some of your valuables for the items in it. Make a point of leaving each cache precisely how you found it so that others might enjoy it after you.

Wildlife Viewing

Keep an eye out for animals while hiking, riding, fishing, or simply sitting back and relaxing in nature. Chief Logan State Park is home to a variety of species, including deer and birds. So make sure to pack your camera and binoculars in your RV. The park also has a wildlife display with creatures native to the state such as bobcats, red-shouldered hawks, black bears, and reptiles.

Chief Logan State Park Location

Chief Logan State Park is located just off US Highway 119. Visitors travelling along US-119 will have a pleasant ride for the most part, but closer to the park, there is a reduced clearance level as you pass through Logan to approach the park. Rigs taller than 10 and 11 feet will be unable to pass through here. If your trailer is taller than 11 feet, you can continue on US-119 to Chapmanville and access another road to the park.

The town of Logan is only 4.3 miles from the park, and if you need supplies or a meal while visiting, you can acquire them there. The roads remain paved and easy to travel after you get to the park. Reduce your speed and enjoy the rest of the gorgeous trip, keeping an eye out for wildlife. If you are camping at the park, you should first check into your site before exploring the rest of the park.
