Chemin-A-Haut State Park, located on a high bluff overlooking Bayou Bartholomew, is a natural paradise for those who appreciate natural beauty. This 503-acre park gets its name from the French word for “high road,” which was used by Native Americans in their seasonal migrations many years ago

The Chemin-A-Haut State Park was created with kids in mind. The two playgrounds in the day-use area, as well as the wading pool in the swimming complex, are popular with younger visitors. In addition, the park’s swimming pool is open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, allowing campers and picnickers to cool off on hot summer days.

There are 35 family sites with grills and tables, five group sites (for up to 24 people), and three shelters in the picnic area. The picnic area and the high, scenic banks of Bayou Bartholomew are connected by a hard-surfaced trail. Visitors can get an even closer look by renting a boat.

Big Slough Lake, located near the park’s edge, provides a chance to fish from the shore. There are numerous freshwater species to be found there. Take advantage of the lovely seclusion of this ideal park location.

Chemin-A-Haut State Park Camping

Visitors today can camp in the same way that Native Americans did, but with many more modern conveniences. They are not required to sleep on the ground, bathe, or wash their clothes in Bayou Bartholomew or the nearby Bayou Chemin-A-Haut. The park has 26 campsites, each with water and electricity. A dump station and a comfort station with showers and restrooms are nearby. For groups, there is also a rally camping area.
