Alafia River State Park, a reclaimed phosphate mine with some of the most dramatic elevation changes in the state, stands out against the relatively flat topography of Central Florida’s landscape. This makes it a popular destination for mountain bikers, who travel through it on trails maintained by the International Mountain Bike Association that are both scenic and challenging.
Those who like to ride horses or hike can explore the park’s 20 miles of hilly trails that wind through forests and flatwoods, pausing to relax and take in the views of one of the park’s many pristine lakes.
Canoeing and fishing are available along the South Prong of the Alafia River, and there are several lakes dotted throughout the park for recreation. Picnic pavilions, a playground, a full-service campground, and a bike shop are among the other amenities available at the park.
It has been discovered that some mapping software is directing visitors to the park’s incorrect entrance. It is not Jameson Road, but County Road 39, that leads to the main park entrance, where you will find the ranger station and campground. If you require directions, please contact the park’s administration office.
