Introduction of  North Point State Park

North Point is a natural gem found in Baltimore County on the Chesapeake Bay’s shoreline. This 1,310-acre park near Edgemere was originally home to the Bay Shore Amusement Park, a famous summer resort from 1906 to 1947. Visitors can visit the historic trolley station, which is now used as a covered picnic area, as well as the restored and still operational fountain. The park is traversed by the Defenders Trail, which was utilised by soldiers during the War of 1812. North Point now features spectacular views of the Chesapeake Bay, a water access area, two fishing piers, picnics and hiking trails that wind around the park and into protected wildlands.

There are approximately ten recognised trails at North Point State Park in Central Maryland, including the Observation Trail, Holly Trail, Ferry Grove Trail, and Black Marsh Trail.

Hikers and cyclists can use nearly all of the trails. The Beaver Pond Trail and the Black Marsh Trail are the outliers. These trails are not bike-friendly.

The latter flows through the 667-acre Black Marsh Natural Area, which is home to osprey, great blue herons, muskrats, river otters, and beavers.

I hiked a beautiful park circle this summer that had steps on at least six of the park’s routes.
