Central Florida’s Highlands Hammock, which supports a beautiful but fragile ecosystem, is home to a diverse and unusual collection of plant and animal life that is both diverse and abundant.
Highlands Hammock State Park, which contains more rare and endemic species than any other Florida State Park, is a place where wilderness and history can be preserved together. Walk the trails where the Florida panther and black bear can be seen quietly passing beneath the ancient, towering oaks of a magnificent hydric hammock, which is open to the public. Deer, alligators, and a variety of birds can be found in the park, as well.
Because of its beautiful old-growth hammock and diverse range of habitats and wildlife species, this is…the best of Real Florida at its best.
Hike any of our nine trails, which include an elevated boardwalk through a cypress swamp, to get a closer look at these natural wonders. Make sure to ride your bike around our 3-mile loop, or take the tram if you prefer to sit back and take it all in at a more leisurely speed.
Visitors to the Civilian Conservation Corps Museum can relive the Great Depression and learn about the lives of the young men who built Florida’s eight CCC parks while reliving the Great Depression.
The park contains a significant number of structures from the New Deal era, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as such.
