Introduction of Shikellamy State Park
Shikellamy State Park is located in the counties of Union and Northumberland. The 78-acre Shikellamy Overlook section is located on the western shore of the Susquehanna River and overlooks the confluence of the Susquehanna River’s West and North Branches. The 54-acre Shikellamy Marina section is located on the southern tip of Packer’s Island, between the Borough of Northumberland and the City of Sunbury, at the confluence of the West Branch and North Branch Susquehanna Rivers.
. This section of the Susquehanna River is known as Lake Augusta, a 3,060-acre lake formed three miles downstream from the park by the world’s largest inflatable dam. The lake is popular for water skiing and has an average depth of six feet. Shikellamy Overlook has two scenic overlooks that are 360 feet above the river confluence. They provide breathtaking views of Sunbury, Northumberland, and the surrounding area. The Point Sitting Area in Shikellamy Marina offers a beautiful view of Lake Augusta. Shikellamy State Park is an excellent place to observe wildlife, particularly migrating birds and butterflies.
