Introduction of Linn Run State Park
Linn Run State Park’s varied topography and mixed hardwood and evergreen forest make it a scenic location for picnicking, hiking, and cabin rentals. Linn Run, formed by the confluence of Grove and Rock runs, is an excellent trout stream with a beautiful waterfall, Adams Falls. Forbes State Forest, which borders Linn Run State Park, has 50,000 acres of land available for outdoor recreation. Linn Run is located in the Laurel Mountains. The elevation of the mountainous terrain ranges from 1,300 to 2,800 feet above sea level. The majority of the land was purchased for 42,662 dollars from the Byers and Allen Lumber Company. This was the first major public purchase of denuded forest land in the Ohio River Basin by the Commonwealth in 1909. It is difficult to imagine what this land looked like in 1909, or that some people questioned the wisdom of purchasing so much “wasteland” at the time. Linn Run State Park now has numerous trails that wind through the forest and along Linn Run. The nearby Forbes State Forest, it provides an ideal setting for a variety of recreational activities.
