Introduction of Lake Wister State Park
Southeast Oklahoma’s Lake Wister State Park, a gateway to the stunning Ouachita National Forest, has five camping locations along its 115 miles of picturesque shoreline. On the 7,300 surface acres of Lake Wister, this outdoor paradise provides park visitors a range of activities, including hiking, camping, bicycling, boating, and water skiing. In addition, the park has a water spray park, which is a well-liked hangout for both kids and adults.
The hotel options at Lake Wister State Park include 15 cabins, RV sites with complete hook-ups or some with water and power only, and tent sites. The park is tucked away amid a ring of pine and oak-covered mountains, the Sans Bois, Jackforks, Kiamichis, and Ouachitas. Sites for RVs and tents must all be reserved online. Book one of the park’s 15 inviting cabins to take advantage of cottages with lake or park views, stone-framed fireplaces, and quick access to hiking trails.
The one- or two-bedroom cabins at the park sleep four to six people and come equipped with one to two queen-size beds with sheets in each bedroom, sleeper couches, and a 32-inch flat screen TV. They are bordered by dogwood, wild cherry, and northern spruce tree groves. Additionally, each cabin is equipped with a kitchen, a bathroom with a shower, and air conditioning. Please be aware that the cabins are no longer furnished with cookware and dishes. Pet guests are able to stay in a limited number of cabins at the park for a daily pet charge, and two cottages have accessible main and toilet doors. A 100 guest capacity group camp with a complete kitchen and dining area is also available at Lake Wister State Park.
Wildlife watchers, nature photographers, and anybody else looking to get outside are all welcome at Lake Wister State Park. The neighbouring Wister Wildlife Management Area is great for hunters. Additionally, a waterfowl habitat is situated near to the park. The Poteau River, the only river in Oklahoma to flow north, the Fourche Maline, and a half dozen or more mountain streams all pour into Lake Wister, providing fresh, chilly water ideal for fishing. The fisherman may catch a lot of northern bluegill, smallmouth and largemouth bass, white bass, channel catfish, flathead catfish, and flathead catfish.
A swimming beach, playgrounds, comfort stations with showers, picnic tables, group picnic shelters, illuminated boat ramps, an unlighted dirt ramp, lighted boat ramps, and a boat launch are all provided at the park. Play a round of miniature golf with friends and family at the park’s course. A self-guided nature walk and a 6.4-mile hiking track carry tourists into the nearby forest where they may see animals including deer, ducks, and bunnies. Golden and bald eagles that are wintering might be spotted swooping overhead in the winter.
