Introduction of Valley Stream State Park
Valley Stream State Park is a day-use picnic area located next to a densely populated residential area. Picnic areas with tables, fireplaces, and grills are available, as are children’s play areas, horseshoe, volleyball, basketball, and bocce ball courts, ball fields, nature trails, and cross-country ski trails. The Squirrel Nut and Hickory Nut nature trails allow children to explore the park’s various habitats. The park has a walking course, a half-mile loop with 15 stations where walkers can stretch and strengthen their muscles. It is a one-of-a-kind outdoor exercise adventure for people of all ages that focuses on cardiovascular fitness, vitality, and longevity.

Bicycling
Bicycle paths are open all year for those who want to start their day with a morning ride in the cool New York air.
Hiking
The Squirrel Nut and Hickory Nut nature trails allow children to explore the park’s various habitats. One of the most popular features of Valley Stream State Park is a walking trail. Around the walking track, there are also a number of exercise stations where people can practice their favorite routines.
Picnicking
Visitors will appreciate the numerous recreation areas and activities available. People can play horseshoes, join a pick-up basketball game on one of the two courts, throw a softball or volleyball around, play boccie ball, watch their children swing on the monkey bars, or use one of the many board game tables. Tables, grills, and pavilions are available. For large groups, pavilions can be rented.
